Riverbank Swimmers Splashing Through Pool For Summer Season Competition

Morgan Barfield delivered spectacular finishes in all four of her events to win each race and lead the Riverbank Barracudas to a tight 126-125 victory over the Patterson Pirates in youth swim action at the Riverbank community pool on Friday, July 16.
The 9-10 division standout led both the medley relay and 200 free relay teams to top honors and secured individual wins in the 50 free and 50 breast.
Bryce Allen also nabbed three first place finishes in the 50 fly, 200 free relay and medley relay for the 9-10 division.
The wins played a huge role in a tight two-team meet that was only separated by a single point.
Patterson, which brought over 80 swimmers to the meet, had an easy depth advantage with only 59 Barracudas swimmers at poolside. Riverbank's individual talent in the races made up for the lack of swimmers - an issue that has kept the program from participating in local swim conferences like the Mid Valley Swim League (Oakdale, Ripon, Tracy, etc.)
The Barracudas instead see Patterson and an Empire/Crows Landing team in recreation action not affiliated with any competitive league.
It's a schedule that coach Tristin Gresham feels best suits Riverbank swimmers and parents.
"A lot of parents are not really up for an all-day swim meet, and we don't have enough swimmers to really participate in leagues like the (MVSL) Gresham said. "But my kids have a lot of heart and they have proved they can do well against larger teams."
The Barracudas will host the Empire/Crows Landing team this Friday, July 23 at 5 p.m. in the community pool.
