Police Investigating Variety Of Cases

A possible hit and run along with an early morning robbery at a local market were among the cases handled this week by Riverbank Police Services.

Deputies responded to a medical aid call on Friday, Oct. 23 at approximately 8 p.m. on the 3500 block of Atchison Street, where Riverbank resident Penny Ott claims she was a victim of a hit and run incident.

Ott stated that she was in the crosswalk at the location when a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed toward her did not show signs of slowing down. So she started running toward the sidewalk but was unable to make it safely across. The vehicle clipped her on the left side and did not stop, Ott reported. She was taken by ambulance to Doctors Medical Center in Modesto. The local resident told The News that she suffered several injuries and has been in severe pain. Ott thinks that the vehicle may have been a dark colored SUV. If anyone has information on this incident, they are asked to contact the Riverbank Police Services at 209-869-7162.

A week later on Friday, Oct. 30, police said a male adult that was on home detention for driving under the influence and felony evading cut off his ankle monitor and left his address of record. He was still on the loose as of press time.

Monday morning, Nov. 2, police were called to a report of a robbery at O’Brien’s Market. Following an investigation, police arrested Katelyn Mitchell 25, from Riverbank. Authorities said she went into O’Brien’s Market and stole multiple items from the store by stashing them in her purse. She then exited the store and was confronted by employees. She forcefully fled the scene, said police, almost driving over one of the employees with her vehicle. A good description of the suspect was given and she was intercepted by deputies on the east side of town. She was taken into custody and all property was recovered. Mitchell was booked for the strong-arm robbery, possession of a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia.
