Schools around Riverbank take ‘Read Across America’ a step further and have activities scheduled throughout the month of March, not just for the March 2 birthday observance for Dr. Seuss. On Friday, youngsters in Mrs. Piper’s kindergarten class at California Avenue Elementary, top photo, enjoyed a visit from ‘Cat in the Hat’ Jill Hodge, side photo, sharing some stories. Hodge is an instructional coach for the school district and made stops at both California Avenue and Mesa Verde to read to the kids. Schools have additional activities planned in March, focusing on literacy.
