From some enthusiastic cheering, a few candlesticks, to V motions and pyramids, the six young ladies that participated in Cheerleading Camp learned the basics in three days. The day camp was opened to youngsters between the ages of 6 to 12 and concluded with a presentation on Friday for family and friends.

The City of Riverbank offers youngsters in the area a variety of camps throughout the summer. Not only did local youth participate in this camp but a few campers were from Ripon as well.

The camp was staged from Wednesday, July 5 to Friday, July 7 at the Cardozo Gym on Santa Fe Street where the participants learned the basics of cheerleading including some simple moves and routines.

Although the class was small it gave the camp leaders a chance to work closely with each person, officials said. With only three days the girls were able to learn the routine without any complications.

On the last day of camp as a surprise for the girls, camp leader Stephanie Argumedo brought in three cheerleaders from Riverbank High School to perform and demonstrate some cheer tactics by doing jumps and cartwheels. They all also engaged in a group dance called the Cha Cha Slide.

“The camp went really well,” said Argumedo. “Since it was a small camp we were able to work one on one with them. They were really excited about the cheerleaders being there.”

The camp has been offered in the City of Action for the past few years. The girls learned six different cheer motions, a dance routine, and two cheers as part of the camp experience.
