American Red Cross Begins Collecting Platelet Donations

Platelet donations are starting in this region next year through the American Red Cross.

The Sonora Blood Donation Center at 850 Sanguinetti Road, Sonora, will start taking platelet donations beginning on Friday, Jan. 5, 2018.

Donors who give their first platelet donation at this location by Wednesday, Jan.31, 2018 will receive a $25 gift certificate via email and can choose from merchants like Outback Steakhouse, Applebee’s, T.J. Maxx, and hundreds more.

Blood donors help save lives, but the demand for platelets is increasing. Platelet donation is another way donors can help patients, especially those battling cancer. Platelet transfusions allow cancer patients to continue treatment and provide them energy to keep fighting.

Locations and hours are subject to change. Visit redcrossblood.org or call 1-800-RED CROSS (1-800-733-2767) for more information about the platelet donation process and available locations.
