Historical Group Hosts Memories Day

This week, the Riverbank Historical Society will host another of its Memories Day events, featuring a presentation about Riverbank’s ‘Sister City’ in Fuyang, China.

Former Riverbank City Manager Rich Holmer will be talking about the trip he and other officials took to sign official documents while making a few stops along the way.

One of the more interesting episodes of the trip might be his description of the mishaps of the six Riverbank High School students who accompanied the group. It seems that finding people to help with directions who also spoke English was problematic.

Holmer also plans to show some artifacts that were exchanged with representatives from Fuyang.

The presentation begins at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Jan. 11.

Memories Day presentations are scheduled throughout the year, bringing in speakers to discuss elements of the history of Riverbank. Many are either current or former longtime residents of the area.

The program will be presented at the Riverbank Historical Museum, at 3237 Santa Fe, behind City Hall North, which is at the corner of Santa Fe and Third streets.

Regular museum hours are 10 a.m. to noon on Tuesdays and Thursdays, and 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturdays.
