Races Shaping Up For June 5 Primary


Stanislaus County Clerk/Recorder/Registrar of Voters Lee Lundrigan has announced the candidate filing deadline of Friday, March 9 for the June 5 Statewide Direct Primary Election has passed. Under California law, filing is now closed except in Stanislaus Board of Supervisors (BOS) District 4, Sheriff, County Clerk/Recorder, Treasurer/Tax Collector, Auditor, and Superintendent of Schools in which the incumbent did not file with the county elections official. In the race in which the incumbent did not file for candidacy, the filing period extends for non-incumbents to 5 p.m. Wednesday, March 14.

The race for U.S. Representative in District 10 – the Congressional seat currently held by Jeff Denham – has several candidates on the ballot.

Along with the incumbent Denham, those filing for the seat shared with portions of San Joaquin County include TJ Cox, Scott Shoblom, Luis Uribe, Virginia Madueno, Josh Harder, Annette Hendricks, Sue Zwahlen, Sandy Riggins, Dorothy J. Nygard, Michael Barkley, Michael Eggman and Ted D. Howze.

In the 12th Assembly District shared with portions of San Joaquin County for the seat currently held by Heath Flora, the race includes the incumbent Flora and Robert D. Chase.

In the race for Stanislaus County Sheriff, a race that has had its filing period extended, candidates so far include Juan Alanis, a Stanislaus Sheriff Sergeant and Jeff Dirkse, a Sheriff’s Lieutenant/Chief.

Candidates for District Attorney include incumbent Birgit Fladager and challengers Patrick Kolasinski, John R. Mayne and Steven O’Connor.
