Taking the stage this past week, students directed students in Riverbank High School’s latest production of “Almost, Maine” at the Bruin Black Box Theater on campus.

Friday and Saturday, they presented a series of two-character scenes, vignettes having a common theme, exploring the ins and outs of love.

The scenes featured two main characters each, with the various stages of love depicted in the situations they acted out on stage.

Except for the Prologue, Interlope and Epilogue, the scenes all utilized different actors.

“Almost, Maine” was staged in New York, for an off-Broadway one month run, but was received favorably by critics.

According to the New York Times, the play “will evoke either awww’s or ick’s, depending on your affection for its whimsical approach to the joys and perils of romance.”

Coming up next for the drama classes is a production of “Cinderella,” set to be staged in April. Construction work has already begun at the Black Box.
