Twenty-two Riverbank High School Students were recognized by the school board at last week’s regular meeting at the district office.

Board President Suzanne Dean and District Superintendent Dr. Daryl Camp presented certificates to 22 RHS student who qualified for the rigorous requirements.

Although not all students could attend the meeting, they were all recognized with certificates to mark their accomplishment.

Riverbank High School students awarded the 2016 Seal of Multilingual Proficiency included: Jesus Aguiniga, Jaisen Albor, America Arauza, Gisselle Caratachea, Areli Esqueda, Perla Garcia Ortega, Jose Ivan Gomez, Brenda Guzman, Alondra Hernandez, Jaqueline Iniguez, Citlaly Manzo, Graciela Meza, Elaine Guadalupe Munoz Macias, Yasmeen Pantoja, Jeanette Reyes, Guadalupe Rodriguez, Magdalena Tapia, Klarissa Valadez, Alondra Valdez, Jesse Velasco, Adrian Vigil and Jorge Yepez.

Dr. Camp pointed out that the county proficiency standards are higher than those required for the state awards.

For students to be eligible to apply for the SCOE Seal of Multilingual Proficiency, they must have gained a high level of proficiency in English and a language other than English; attend a participating high school; and must have the approval of the site high school contact.

Recipients of this award are required to express themselves with clarity and efficacy in writing and orally; complete a portfolio or “LinguaFolio” that demonstrates the ability to prepare short, polished pieces in English; provide an on-demand writing sample in the “target” language; and respond orally in both English and the “target” language in interviews.

Board members noted that all district schools will be closed for Winter Break from Dec. 19, 2016 through Jan. 8, 2017.

In other business, the RUSD Board recognized the 2016 Riverbank High Boys Track & Field team for its undefeated season and Trans-Valley League championship.

Coach Robert Searway noted that the team won all three home meets on the brand new all-weather track last year, and was able to host the TVL Championship Meet, as well.

The board also recognized President Suzanne Dean, who was then elected to another term in office.
