Fall Slate Sees Volleyball, Football Squads In Action

Lady Bruin varsity player Bryce Allen...

Riverbank High football was on the road this past Friday, traveling to Fremont to meet the California School of the Deaf. Earlier in the week, the Lady Bruins hosted Escalon in volleyball action in the Ray Fauria Memorial Gymnasium.

The Lady Bruin volleyball teams hosted Escalon’s Lady Cougars on Tuesday, Sept. 12. Riverbank’s varsity squad dropped their match in three straight games, 25-4, 25-7 and 25-4. The JV team fared no better, losing their match in two games, 25-7 and 25-13.

The contest was the last home volleyball matches for RHS until Oct. 3.

In the interim, all Riverbank matches will be on the road, with a bye date on Thursday, Sept. 21.

These were scheduled to include visits to Hughson on Sept. 19, after The News went to press, and Ripon and Modesto Christian next week, before returning to the home court against Hilmar on Tuesday, Oct. 3.

Unfortunately, the Bruin football team came up short, 41-20, in the varsity-only game last Friday, against the Eagles of California School for the Deaf. No quarterly breakdowns were reported.

This week for football, there’ll be lots of Homecoming Week action. It all starts Wednesday night, Sept. 20, with the annual Powder Puff football game, kicking off at 6 p.m.

On Friday, alumni are expecting to participate in the Homecoming Parade downtown at 3:30 p.m.

Friday evening, the Bruins host Turlock Christian High School’s Eagles, with the JV game beginning at 5:30 p.m. The varsity contest is scheduled to begin about 7:30 p.m.

There’s an alumni reception with a Riverbank High School Timeline presented in the Ray Fauria Memorial Gymnasium during the early game that night, before a varsity pre-game show that will honor the Bruin band and alumni band members, with an Olympic-style walk around the track organized by class/by decade.
