Spring Sports Gearing Up At Riverbank High School

Fields and courts across the campus will be teeming with teams, as athletes get their spring sports schedule underway this week at Riverbank High School. And a brand new sport gets underway, as well.

Second Volleyball Season

New to the Riverbank High sports schedule this spring season is boys volleyball. It was added at the request of several players who wanted it, according to coaches Yvette Monges and Dalilah Hernandez.

Since not all high schools have boys teams yet, the 2018 season will be a bit limited, with just one set of pre-league games, home and away, hosting Big Valley Christian High School on Thursday, March 1, then traveling to BVC in Modesto next Wednesday, March 7.

After that, it’s just eight games, two each against Ripon, Ripon Christian, Hilmar and Mountain House, between now and May 3.

Boys Baseball

The Bruin varsity baseball started its 2018 pre-season with a 5-4 loss against the Patterson Tigers on Friday, Feb. 23, and were to travel to Livingston on Monday, weather permitting. Also scheduled is a trip to Summerville High School in Tuolumne on Wednesday, Feb. 28, followed by a trip to Lathrop on Friday, March 2.

Their first home game has the Bruins scheduled to host Johansen High School from Modesto.

Lady Bruin Softball

Riverbank girls’ softball pre-season was scheduled to get underway last Monday, Feb. 26, again, weather permitting.

They’re set to go to Vacaville Christian High School tomorrow, March 1, but there was rain in the forecast earlier this week. Their first home game is set for Friday.

Track & Field

RHS runners, jumpers and throwers were set to start at a meet at Sierra High School in Manteca on Tuesday, Feb. 27, with the Sierra Relays scheduled for that location this upcoming weekend.

Tennis Tournament

The Bruin co-ed tennis season is set to get underway this week, with the Riverbank Doubles Tournament slated for Thursday and Friday. They’ll be back on the home courts on Monday, March 5 with Ripon Christian High School coming to town.

Boys Golf

With the release last week of the RHS sports schedules, it looks like the Bruin golfers will be calling La Contenta Golf Course in Valley Springs their home course this year.

Soccer Finale

The last of the Bruin winter teams in action was varsity soccer, as the boys played in the Sac-Joaquin Section Division V playoffs. Going in as the number seven seed, Riverbank had to travel to Highlands near Sacramento for their first round game on Tuesday, Feb. 20. It was a hard fought match but the Bruins ended their season with a 1-0 loss.

All winter sports teams will gather for an Awards/Recognition Night on Wednesday, March 14.
