Though the high school track season is still winding down, a Riverbank track athlete also still had one foot on the basketball court last week.

RHS senior Savannah Macias, who runs sprint races on the Bruin track team, went from the Trans-Valley League meet at Riverbank last Thursday to an appearance in the 6-County Girls All-Star basketball game on Friday, May 11 at Modesto Junior College.

Thursday, she finished first in her TVL heat in the 100-meter dash, with a time of 12.82 seconds, enough to put her in first place for the meet. She also finished first in the 200-meters, with a time of 27.01.

According to her father, Nick, she raced while sick that night, and ended up going to the ER for IV fluids afterwards. She had also helped the 4x100 relay team place fourth after the 200, and was part of the 4x400 relay team that came in fifth for the Lady Bruins.

While all that league track competition was going on, the all-star basketball girls were getting introduced at a banquet. And the next day, Friday, was the All-Star Game.

So Macias faced practices last week ahead of the All-Star game, and preparation for the league track meet all at the same time.

The North team edged past the South all-stars, 84-72, in the finale, the 24 all-stars taking the court for the last game of their high school careers.

A bit of a bonus for Macias was that she was coached by her RHS varsity girls basketball coach, Logan Nabors, in the game. He was one of two coaches named to lead the South All-Stars, which included Macias.

And her track career isn’t quite over yet, either. The top finishers in the TVL meet from Thursday moved on to the Divisional competition; trials were scheduled Tuesday, May 15 with finals on Thursday, May 17 at Stanislaus State in Turlock. The Masters meet will be held on Thursday and Friday next week, in Elk Grove, for the top athletes from the Divisionals.
