Friday Flix Featured At Sonora Opera Hall

The Second Saturday Art Night Committee and the Sonora Chamber of Commerce are excited to bring a new event to downtown Sonora, Friday Flix at the Opera Hall.

You may have seen these movies … but not like this. This will be an interactive movie experience.

The series begins on Jan. 12, with a classic movie from 1939, The Wizard of Oz.

Notable for its use of Technicolor, fantasy storytelling, musical score, and memorable characters, it has become an icon of American popular culture.

How do you make a movie interactive? When you enter the “theater” you will be given a program and the first 50 people get a goodie bag. This movie has iconic songs, (words in the program) so you can sing along. The bag contains a flag to wave every time someone says Dorothy’s name. The wicked witch enters the scene, boo… hiss. This is just the beginning.

Participants are invited to come dressed as their favorite character. There will be a costume contest with great prizes for the top two winners.

The movies chosen for this series were chosen their interactive possibilities. Wizard of Oz, Jan. 12; The Birdcage, Feb 9; The Big Lebowski, March 16; Men in Black, April 13; and Paint Your Wagon, May 18.

The Sonora Opera Hall doors open at 6 p.m.; costume contest is at 6:30 p.m. and the movie starts at 7 p.m. Admission is just $5 and includes free popcorn and a goodie bag. There will be a no host bar. Bring your own chair or use one of theirs. Children are welcome and encouraged at this showing.

One of the missions of The Sonora Chamber and the Second Saturday Art Night Committee is to bring events downtown in order to create a vibrant community for businesses, locals and visitors to Sonora.
