Annual La Grange Rodeo Cancelled
la g

After serious deliberation, the 73rd Annual La Grange Rodeo, planned for Sunday April 5, has been cancelled, due to the ban of large gatherings during the coronavirus pandemic. Other town activities have also been curtailed. The La Grange Odd Fellow Breakfast, always the second Sunday of the month, has been suspended until further notice and the La Grange Museum will also be closed for the duration.

The earliest rodeo of the season, the La Grange Rodeo is also one of the oldest. In 1948 local ranchers organized the first one as part of the Centennial celebration for La Grange, Gold Rush town turned cow town. The tradition has been carried on through the years by the non-profit La Grange Rodeo Association, so they’ll be back in the saddle next year, first Sunday in April. It’s still worthwhile to take a joy-ride, destination La Grange. Wildflower season and wildlife viewing is in full swing down at the old walking bridge over the Tuolumne River, just across from the La Grange Store. The Old School County Park is just up the hill, and nearby is St. Louis Mission church.

La Grange is on Highway 132, 30 miles east of Modesto, 30 miles north of Merced on Hwy J-59.
