Singers of all ages and abilities are invited to participate in the tenth annual sing along performance of G.F. Handel’s “Messiah” on Sunday, Nov. 19. The community-wide event, which is free and open to the public, will take place at 4 p.m. at Trinity United Presbyterian Church, 1600 Carver Road in Modesto.
To celebrate the tenth anniversary, the performance will expand to include chamber orchestra accompaniment.
“We’ve been looking forward to adding the orchestra component,” said Dr. Ginger Covert Colla, who will again conduct the performance. “It’s a fitting way to commemorate our tenth year, and will make the performance more authentic, as Handel envisioned it.”
Scheduled each year for the Sunday before Thanksgiving, “It’s a great way to kick off the Holiday season,” said event organizer, Denise Nordell. “Singers come from throughout the region to sing with us. Whether you’ve sung “Messiah” once or a hundred times, or just enjoyed listening to it from the audience, the “Messiah” sing along gives vocalists of all skill levels the opportunity to enjoy the experience of sharing this beautiful music together.”
Last year’s sing along attracted more than 150 singers from throughout the region.
Featured soloists will include sopranos Sandra Bengochia and Duana Demus-Leslie, Merilyn Telle Vaugn (alto), Bruce Merchant (tenor), and Richard Colla (bass).
Singers are encouraged to bring their own scores; however, copies will be available to borrow. For more information, call (209) 765-6388.
