Painting, collages, drawings, prints and sculpture created by Alex Walker over the last decade will be on display this month at Modesto Junior College.

Modesto Junior College Art Gallery presents the exhibit Arches, Pillars, Patterns and Portals featuring painting, collages, drawings, prints and sculpture created by Alex Walker over the last decade.

The display is open to the public Nov. 1 through Dec. 1, 2016 and admission is free. The MJC Art Gallery is open Monday through Thursday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and is located on East Campus, 435 College Ave., Modesto.

A public reception with the artist is scheduled for Thursday, Nov. 10, 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the Gallery. The artist speaks at 6 p.m. and refreshments are available.

“The works on display are my contribution to the ongoing dialogue surrounding the exploration of space and reality through visual media,” Walker explained. “The wide range of visual languages presented represents different approaches or modes of creation which attempt to examine and understand pattern and structure from a variety of perspectives.”

Walker’s surrealist imagery reflects dream and altered states, motion, automatic response, relativity, natural design patterns and repeating proportional compositions and his work ranges in style, from evocative abstract patterns to highly realistic renderings of objectivity.

“Alex was a very gifted MJC art student 10 years ago and has since continued producing works that explore the rhythms and patterns in nature and perception,” said Richard Serros, MJC professor of art and director of the MJC Art Gallery.
