Carnegie

True to tradition, the Carnegie Arts Center in Turlock will present Yosemite Renaissance 34 from Aug. 8 through Oct. 6. On display will be 60 works by 59 artists, interpreting the majesty of Yosemite National Park and the Sierra region.

An opening reception will be held on Thursday, Aug. 8 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. in conjunction with Art Around Town, the quarterly Downtown Turlock art walk.

Regular hours at the Carnegie, 250 N. Broadway, are: Wednesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Fridays 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.; Sundays noon to 4 p.m.

Along with the Yosemite exhibit, a special show coming up will be displaying artwork from area artists.

From ancient myth to a cop on the beat, the definition of “hero” has grown and changed across time and cultures. Heroes Real & Imagined is an all-media juried exhibition hosted by the Carnegie and open to artists living in California.

This show asks artists to think above and beyond the comic book definition of “hero.” Why do some people, or the ideals they represent, become heroes to us as individuals and as communities? Submissions might include representations of mythic heroes, cultural icons, personal mentors, or civic figures – stories or people that represent what it means to be a hero.

All entry materials (entry forms, images, and fees) must be received by 4 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 22. Entries should be submitted through SmarterEntry.com. All materials and payment will be handled online. For more information or to ask questions, contact the Carnegie office, 250 N. Broadway, Turlock, by email: admin@carnegieartsturlock.org; or call (209) 632-5761 for assistance.

Any creative medium will be considered eligible.

Awards will include Best of Show: $300; Two Awards of Merit: $100 each; Four Honorable Mentions: $50 each.

Non-refundable entry fee is $20 for the first entry for non-members, $15 for each additional entry. Carnegie Members receive a discount of $5 off each entry by using the promo codeCAC. Each artist may enter up to six works.

Artists must be at least 18 years of age and reside in California.
