Choral, Band Performances Scheduled On Stage At MJC

The Modesto Junior College Community Concert Band presents a Spring Performance on Wednesday, April 24 at 7 p.m. in the Main Auditorium on East Campus, 435 College Ave., Modesto.

The program features “Rosehill March” by A.H. Jakeway, “Concert Miniature” by Rex Mitchell, “Festival” by Clifton Williams, “Atlantis Suite” by V.F. Safranek, “Heroic Saga” by Robert Jager, “The Hounds of Spring” by Alfred Reed and “Esprit de Corps” by Robert Jager.

The MJC Community Concert Band is conducted by Director of Bands Erik Maki. The event is open to the public and admission is free, with donations gratefully accepted. Free campus parking is available for the evening to accommodate concert attendees.

On Friday, April 26 at 7 p.m., the Department of Music presents “The French Connection” – a spring choral concert –in the Auditorium of the Performing Arts Center on East Campus, 435 College Ave.

Under the direction of Professor Cathryn Tortell, the Concert Choir and Chamber Singers are performing a lively collection of choral works that showcase the surprising French connection between the influence of legendary composition teacher, Nadia Boulanger, and what has become standard “American” repertoire.

“You will experience the music of Leonard Bernstein’s “West Side Story” Medley, Aaron Copland, Samuel Barber and others in an entirely new light,” said Professor Tortell. “Come along for this melodic, trans-Atlantic journey!”

Concert tickets are $6 general admission and $5 for students, seniors, and children. Tickets are for sale in advance at the Auditorium Box Office, open Tuesday through Friday, noon to 5 p.m., or by calling (209) 575-6776 during these hours. Tickets will also be available at the door beginning 90 minutes prior to the performance. Campus parking is free for the evening.
