Get Ready To Enjoy A Chocolate Hoedown

The Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Tuolumne County (UUFTC) is sponsoring the Chocolate Lovers’ Hoedown, a community dance and dinner on Saturday, Feb. 10, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. in the Manzanita Building at the Mother Lode Fairgrounds in Sonora. Silent and live auctions will include chocolate goodies and other treasures suitable for Valentine’s gifts. Homemade truffles will be for sale. All are encouraged to come ready to eat and dance. Western garb is optional but appropriate.

The Hoedown, a community dance, will feature Rachel Phillips of Groveland to guide all through the dances. The dance card will have selections of line dances, contra dances, circle dances and maybe even square dances. No partners are necessary; the dances are easy and caller Rachel will teach the dances on the spot. No experience is necessary.

A retired teacher, Rachel is a locally renowned caller and has called for local clubs as well as for students studying the Gold Country. She has more than 20 years’ experience and currently calls for the Bootjack Stompers in Mariposa. Rachel and husband Roy Phillips met square dancing 20 years ago and are both docents at Columbia State Historic Park. Sought after by many, Rachel has called for dance clubs, for birthday and anniversary parties and for events at Columbia State Historic Park. Rachel and Roy are 13-year residents of Groveland.

The buffet dinner will be catered by popular chef Dave Ingram of Chef Dave Cooks! The western-themed menu will include appetizers of Dave’s popular Cowboy Caviar, while the main course includes BBQ Pork Loin with Chocolate-Fig Sauce, Wrangler’s Salad, Roasted Carrots and Beets with Balsamic-Bitter Chocolate Drizzle, plus Cocoa Rye Bread. The finale of the meal will be Dave’s outstanding Better-than-Six Cake for dessert. Wine and beer will be available to purchase.

Ingram is a personal chef and event caterer who provides outstanding food service in a number of area counties. With over 36-plus years of professional experience preparing a multitude of cuisine styles from simple comfort foods to gourmet, Chef Dave tailors menus for the specific occasion, from a simple cocktail party with appetizers to buffets and sit down dinners. The words seasonal, fresh and delicious take on an entirely new meaning when Ingram takes charge. See chefdavecooks.com for more info.
