The Great Valley Museum at Modesto Junior College invites the community to its Fourth Annual Gala on Saturday, March 10 from 5:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the MJC West Campus, 2201 Blue Gum Ave., Modesto.

This year’s gala theme is “The Genius of Birds” and the event includes a museum display of various taxidermy birds from its collection.

The elegant evening begins at 5:30 p.m. with a hosted wine, beer and hors d’oeuvres reception in the Great Valley Museum located in the Science Community Center. Guests sit down at 7 p.m. to a fabulous dinner prepared by Chef Hank Winkle of O’Brien’s Market.

Attendees also have an opportunity to bid on numerous items donated by supportive community members during a silent auction offered prior to the dinner.

Individual gala tickets are $125 and sponsorship opportunities are also available. Special discounted “early bird tickets” are available for $100 through Jan. 31. To purchase tickets, donate a silent auction item, or obtain sponsorship information, contact the museum at (209) 575-6196 or visit the museum webpage at www.mjc.edu/gvm.

Proceeds aid the Great Valley Museum Foundation in the continuing development of the GVM as one of California’s premier natural history museums and benefit the museum’s programs and activities.

Each year, thousands of young minds receive the benefit of hands-on science activities at the GVM. The museum’s Traveling Teacher programs include live reptiles and insects, current environmental issues and local Native American artifacts, to name a few. The museum also offers group tours, Science on a Sphere shows and planetarium presentations. These programs enhance the educational experience for school children in the Central Valley and assist in addressing the Science Content Standards for California.
