Sometimes you need to get out of town and you don’t want to spend more time on the road than you do at the event you’re going to see.

So, if you change a scenery for the upcoming Fourth of July Holiday but don’t want to venture too far away, Modesto has a full roster of events that is suitable for the entire family.

And the best part is you don’t have to worry about Bay Area traffic or mountain roads in order to get there.

Here are just a few of the things that you can find in nearby Stanislaus County:

*The 143rd annual Fourth of July Parade – Every year since 1874 Modesto has celebrated America as a community. Why not take in that kind of tradition? With a 2017 theme of “Modesto USA” the Modesto Kiwanis Parade begins at 9:30 a.m. and runs a route along I Street and a portion of 10Th Street down near Modesto Centre Plaza and behind the Gallo Center for the Arts. Skydiver Kent Lane will be jumping from 10,000 feet and guiding a 1,000-foot flag to the parade start to begin the festivities.

*All-American Festival – At 1010 10th Street – known as the 10th Street Plaza – from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. the city will welcome families for flag raising ceremonies at 12:15 p.m. just before the parade awards and trophies are handed out. The event will feature live music and food as well as activities for the kids.

*Modesto Nut Fireworks Celebration – On Monday, July 3, the Modesto Nuts host the San Jose Giants for a game that begins at 7:05 p.m. The majority of those in attendance, however, will be there for the fireworks show at the game’s conclusion – the fireworks extravaganza. It serves as Modesto’s de facto community fireworks show for those who don’t feel driving up to Lake Don Pedro which is hosting its first Fireworks Spectacular in three years on Sunday, July 2. That particular show, in which fireworks will launch from a barge near the Blue Oaks Recreation Area, will cost $20 a vehicle and begin at around 9:30 p.m. Vehicles are encouraged to arrive at 8 p.m. in order to settle in before the show.
