Modesto Symphony Orchestra Celebrating Its 89th Season
MSO

The Modesto Symphony Orchestra’s (MSO) 89th Season will be a landmark year. September will bring the 25th annual Picnic at the Pops and November will mark the beginning of the Modesto Symphony Youth Orchestra’s (MSYO) 45th season as well as Music Director David Lockington’s 13th and final season with the Modesto Symphony. Maestro Lockington has been instrumental in both nurturing the orchestra’s artistic quality and developing the Modesto Symphony into a major regional orchestra in Northern California and the MSO looks forward to continuing to build on that reputation this year and for years to come.

Lockington will conduct all five of the MSO’s Classics Series concert programs performed at the Gallo Center for the Arts. Each Classics concert has performances on Friday and Saturday and a new 7:30 p.m. start time. Most of the Classics Series performances will feature a 30 minute Pre-Concert Talk at 6:30 p.m., which will give audiences the opportunity to hear the conductors and guest artists discuss the evening’s program. In addition to the Classics Series, the MSO also offers a three concert Pops Series (also performed at the Gallo Center) and the community favorites, Picnic at the Pops and Holiday Candlelight Concert.

“We are thrilled to present the MSO’s 89th season. David Lockington has programmed an ambitious season that features some of the most iconic symphonic works of all time,” said Caroline Nickel, President and CEO of the Modesto Symphony Orchestra Association. “We are grateful for how he has helped nurture and develop the Modesto Symphony’s artistic quality over these past 12 years and we look forward to celebrating his tenure throughout the coming season.”

The Modesto Symphony Orchestra will present its 25th Annual Picnic at the Pops on Sept. 7, 2019 featuring the Classical Mystery Tour: A Tribute to The Beatles. Grounds open at 4 p.m. and the concert begins at 7:30 p.m. at the E. & J. Gallo Winery.

MSO Chorus Director, Dr. Daniel R. Afonso Jr., once again leads the Modesto Symphony Orchestra, Chorus, Youth Chorus, and the Opus Handbell Ensemble in a special concert that has become a treasured community tradition, the Holiday Candlelight Concert on Dec. 17 at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church.
