MODESTO – So it’s that time of year again and you’ve navigated the holiday season and are chugging right along into what will be another glorious year.

So don’t make the mistake of not making reservations for the most “romantic” holiday of the year.

All greeting card jokes aside, many of us end up waiting until the last minute to figure something out only to find out that all of the best places are either slammed because you didn’t make a reservation, or aren’t taking anybody else for the remainder of the evening.

Don’t worry. Here are some ideas for romantic, intimate settings that you can enjoy with your significant other:

*Redwood Café – Ever drive past those country homes and think about how cute it would be if it were made into a restaurant? Me neither. But that’s exactly what the owners of this Dale Road establishment did when they opened their tapas-style eatery that offers all of the coziness and intimacy you’d hope to find for a nice romantic evening out on the town. It’s a popular spot for good reason – the food is amazing and the ambiance is killer, and there’s a good chance that this place will be busy most nights. But if it’s mood and quality that you’re going for then you’d be hard-pressed to find anything else like it. 4342 Dale Road, 209.545.9248.

*Dewz – There are good restaurants. And then there are places like Dewz. Downtown Modesto has experienced somewhat of a culinary revival over the course of the last two decades, and this popular eatery – which has been serving valley people since 1997 – focuses on not only delivering quality eats, but an overall dining experience you aren’t soon going to forget. From the appetizers to the dessert – like their crème brulee that is torched tableside – you’re in for a treat that you and your significant other will never forget. 1505 J Street, 209.549.1101.

*Surla’s – Owned and operated by chef John Surla, this Downtown Modesto treat has been serving up happy customers since 2009. They’re beloved for their Sunday brunch, but with an expansive menu and an intimate, modern setting you’re not going to go wrong if this is the place that you choose to host your special evening. 431 12th Street, 209.550.555.
