After opening the season showing tremendous promise, the Riverbank High volleyball team is searching for answers after slipping to Escalon and Ripon on their way to a 1-4 Trans-Valley League mark at the end of the first round.

"We are a very young team and we still have a lot to learn," Riverbank head coach Lisa Mila said. "We are a good team; my girls are just learning to believe in themselves."

On several occasions the Lady Bruins display the tenacity that it will take to survive in the challenging TVL volleyball play. Teams like Escalon, Ripon and Ripon Christian field dominant teams each and every season, and while Riverbank has been able to battle with these squads, getting over the hump to take a win is proving to be a much stiffer challenge.

Riverbank (2-8, 1-4) allowed Escalon to dictate the flow of the match in the Riverbank gym on Monday, Sept. 24, falling behind by double digits early in both the first and second games. The Lady Bruins did make progress in the third and final match, but still fell short 9-25, 8-25, and 10-25 in the TVL loss.

"We couldn't find our rhythm tonight, and just lost control," Mila said. "Erikka (Garza) and Alyssa (Adams) were very consistent hitting once we get them closer to the net, they'll have a chance to really kill the ball."
