Schools Will Reopen Monday

Riverbank schools will reopen on Monday, Aug. 13, after the long, summer vacation.

They include Riverbank High, Cardozo Middle and California Avenue Elementary schools that run on a traditional schedule. Rio Altura Elementary operates year-round on a three-track system and only closed for 10 days at the end of May for necessary maintenance.

Riverbank High has about 800 students enrolled but figures can change drastically in the first few weeks of the school year, said Assistant Principal Sean Richey. Classes open at 8 a.m. with the seventh period running to almost 4 p.m. on the same schedule as last year.

This last Monday, all students were asked to pick up their class schedules and identification cards.

Teachers could come in voluntarily Tuesday and Wednesday of this week on a "buyback system" to prepare for classes. All teachers, both new and old, will be required to gather tomorrow Thursday.

At Cardozo Middle, parents have been picking up "enrollment packets" this week and can return eighth grade packets today from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. or 1-3 p.m. or bring them to Back to School Night on Aug. 9 at 6 p.m. in the multipurpose room.
