A familiar face in a new setting, the new assistant principal at Riverbank High School has been a home economics teacher for 17 years with the last three of those years spent at RHS. Rebecca Evans recently completed her administrative credential at Stanislaus State in Turlock and this is her first job in administration.

"I love teaching, especially the subject I chose. But change can be a good thing. It was time to move on," she said of her move from the classroom to an administrator's office.

Evans is replacing Mary Black who was hired as principal of Merced High School. Ken Geisick remains RHS principal with Sean Richey continuing as the other assistant principal.

Born and raised in the San Gabriel Valley, Evans earned her Bachelor of Science degree in home economics at Cal Poly Pomona and taught in southern California until three years ago.

She and her husband Michael, who works in construction, had wanted to move to the Central Valley for many years but waited until their children had completed high school.
