After enjoying a couple of victories, the Riverbank varsity football Bruins traveled to Waterford on Friday night and came home with a loss, falling to the host team by a 34-12 final.

The Bruins did get on the board first, though, scoring on a 2-yard run by Evan Gunther. The kick failed but the visitors had a 6-0 lead. Marcus McIlwain answered for Waterford before the first quarter was over, scoring on a 46-yard run. Waterford went for the 2-point conversion but failed, so the teams were tied at 6-6.

The game was still within reach by the time the horn sounded at halftime, with Waterford getting a touchdown on a 73-yard reception by McIlwain from Kyle Hopper, and Jared Dolbee running in the 2-point conversion. That made it 14-6 Waterford and the Bruins got back on the board with a 38 yard run by Gunther. The point after attempt was blocked but the Bruins felt pretty good heading in to the locker room at the half, down just 14-12.

But Waterford allowed no more points on Friday night, keeping Riverbank out of the end zone for the final two quarters. The host team, meanwhile, got one touchdown in the third quarter and added two more scores in the final frame to take the win and improve to 3-1 on the season.
