Teens and adults are invited to take part in reading clubs offered at the Riverbank Library on Santa Fe Street, with sessions scheduled during January.

The Riverbank Library Book Club will hold a discussion of “Beneath a Scarlet Sky,” by Mark T. Sullivan on Tuesday, Jan. 22 at 4 p.m. The historical fiction novel takes place in 1940s Italy. Teenager Pino Lella joins an underground railroad, helping Jews escape over the Alps and falls for a beautiful widow. He also becomes the personal driver of one of the Third Reich’s most powerful commanders.

“Book clubs allow community members to expand their knowledge of books through meaningful discussions with others,” said Victoria Holt, Riverbank Library supervisor.

On Friday, Jan. 25 at 3:30 p.m. the Riverbank Library Teen Book Club will discuss “They Both Die at the End,” by Adam Silvera. In a near-future New York City, where a service alerts people on the day they will die, teenagers Mateo Torrez and Rufus Emeterio meet using the Last Friend app and are faced with the challenge of living a lifetime on their End Day.

Both books, reserved for book club use, are available for checkout at the Riverbank Library in limited quantities. The Friends of the Riverbank Library will provide light refreshments for the Teen Book Club.

The Riverbank Library is at 3442 Santa Fe.
