Bruin Homecoming Set For Next Week

Homecoming Week will arrive at Riverbank High next week.

In preparation there will be a 12:30 p.m. fashion show in the Bruin gym this Friday, Sept. 30, with students showing how to dress for the coming week and introduction of the royal court.

Dress up days will begin on Monday. Oct. 3 with a sock hop theme from the Fifties "when poodle skirts were cool and leather jackets were in," says the student pamphlet. On Tuesday students are encouraged to show their groovy side by dressing like hippies from the spirited Sixties. Wednesday is for disco attire "and a trip back on the soul train to the Seventies."

For Thursday, "let's moonwalk back into the Eighties to relive the times of Ray-Bans, leg warmers, blazers and crazy hair," reads the schedule. Friday is game night against Orestimba and time to dress in school colors of maroon, silver and white.

Each day there will be class competitions at lunchtime and class float construction after school.

The girls' powder puff football game is slated for Thursday. The game will start at 6:30 p.m. with coronation of the Homecoming King scheduled for halftime.

On Friday, there will be a "Battle of the Boom Bands" at lunchtime in the quad, a mandatory rally in Fauria Gym at 1:35 p.m. and a Homecoming parade downtown along Santa Fe and Seventh streets starting at 3:20 p.m.

The Homecoming game against the Orestimba Warriors is that evening, junior varsity at 5:30 p.m. and varsity at 7:30 p.m.

During halftime of the varsity game, the Homecoming Queen will be crowned, the winner of the float competition announced and the Spirit Bear awarded to the class with the most spirit points for dress.
