The Wizard of Oz is this year’s theme as the Riverbank High School Bruins celebrate “No Place Like Homecoming” on campus and in the community this week.
The Fall Homecoming events are underway and will include a Friday afternoon downtown parade, a home football game hosting Bret Harte and featuring the crowning of the Homecoming King and Queen, along with the announcement of underclassmen royalty at a Saturday night dance.
Throughout the week, students on the Riverbank High Schol campus are enjoying lunch time activities and the various spirit days included Which Witch Are You on Monday, Oct. 20, which also was Twin Day. Twister Tuesday encouraged students to show up in their wackiest outfit on Oct. 21 and No Place Like Home Wednesday, Oct. 22 allows students to feel right at home at school by staying in their PJs for Pajama Day.
Field of Poppies on Thursday, Oct. 23 will see students dressing in floral prints and bright colors and Friday, Oct. 24 is the traditional Bruin Spirit Day, with students asked to wear maroon.
The parade is scheduled for 2:10 p.m. Friday, stepping off along Santa Fe Street.
Senior Homecoming King candidates are Alex Silva, Kareem Gheith, Damian Quintana, Victor Bermudez and Austynn Givargiznia. In the running for Homecoming Queen are Chanel Bravo, Giselle Fernandez, Danitza Azpeitia, Layla Ventura and Pricila Yepez.
The King and Queen will be crowned during festivities at the Friday night varsity football game at Angelo Novi Field.
The Saturday night Homecoming Dance, Oct. 25 will feature the crowning of underclassmen royals.
Junior Prince and Princess candidates are Adrian Fernandez and Mia Fuentes, Gabriel Sandoval and Summer Mitre, Adrian Montes and Johannah Rosillo.
Sophomore Prince and Princess hopefuls are Erik Guzman and Emily Ramirez, Adrian Jimenez and Samantha Silva, Eder Ventura and Ava Fuentes.
Freshman candidates vying for the Prince and Princess honors are Elijah Torres and Gabriela Aldaz, Jacob Estrada and Yazmin Dominguez, Jonathan Perez and Sofia Ruiz.
