In streets, driveways and yards all around Riverbank, residents enjoyed their neighborhood fireworks on Friday night, July 4. Most – like the ‘Safe and Sane’ fireworks being used here – had come from the numerous sales booths operated by community organizations as fundraisers. However, despite recent warnings by local officials about the hazards and cost of setting off illegal fireworks, plenty of bursts of the aerial variety were seen in almost all directions in Riverbank on Friday, with the accompanying booms to go with them. One fire, at Claus Road and Companion Lane, was sparked by fireworks and burned between two and three acres as well as destroying a barn.
