Riverbank voters are reminded there will be a "Candidates Meet and Greet" event on Tuesday, Sept. 22 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Galaxy Theater, 2525 Patterson Road.

The city has six candidates competing for the mayor's seat that currently is unfilled and the Riverbank Unified School District has four candidates contesting three seats on the board.

The candidates running for mayor, listed in alphabetical order, are Mark Ensley, Paul Gutierrez, Larry King, Virginia Madueno, Richard D. O'Brien and Dave White, who currently is vice mayor.

The school board candidates who also have been invited to attend Tuesday's event are incumbents Ron Peterson, Egidio "Jeep" Oliveira and challengers Cohen Blount and Elizabeth Meza.

Voters may meet them informally at this event sponsored by the Riverbank Chamber of Commerce.

Candidates will be allowed three minutes to talk about their qualifications. After all of them have given presentations, they will split up and offer an open community forum when residents may approach and chat with them individually.

"Our hope is to encourage the voting public to get involved and gain the knowledge they need to make an educated decision on Election Day. We stress the responsibility the voting public has regarding the ultimate election results. We sincerely look forward to your participation," said Chamber president Carla Strong.

For more information, call 869-4541 or e-mail info@riverbanakchamber.org.

Citizens who miss this event will have another chance to hear the candidates on Monday, Oct. 5.

The League of Women Voters have set a candidates night for that date starting at 6 p.m. in the Community Center at 3600 Santa Fe.
