Caroling For Cans Set For Thursday

Future Farmers of America members at Riverbank High School will be "Caroling for Cans" in a drive to collect canned food for the needy, said RHS Ag Advisor Travis Cardoso.

"The hardest part about a canned food drive," he said in a recent e-mail, "is remembering when the day is to actually bring them in. So we take that part of the equation out of it for you."

The day and time for the can drive is set for Thursday, Dec. 1 from 4:30 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Using a flatbed truck fitted with a loudspeaker to play carols - people can sing along if they want - FFA members will be making their way around the downtown and the Crossroads housing development at that time to collect cans door-to-door. Hopefully, they'll collect enough to fill the flatbed, said Cardoso.

For residents who are not going to be home from work until later or whose house is not on the route, Cardoso noted the students' last stop will be at the Plaza del Rio at Third and Santa Fe streets in the downtown. They will be there around 6:45 p.m. until 7:15 p.m.

"So please support the FFA chapter, help the community and bring your cans to the plaza," he said.
