CELESTIAL SHOW
R eclipse

While folks living in many central and eastern states across the country got to experience the totality of Monday’s solar eclipse, April 8, viewers in this region of Northern California only got to experience about a 35 percent coverage of the sun. This photo was taken just before 11 a.m. in Riverbank, with the moon covering just about as much of the sun as we were going to get. Utilizing a set of the ISO ranked filter glasses, the photo was taken safely, with no damage to the photographer’s eyes or his camera. If you missed it, the next opportunity for such a viewing isn’t anticipated for another 20 years, in 2044. Library branches throughout the county partnered with Modesto Children’s Museum to host viewing parties.
