CELESTIAL SHOW
NL 5-15

Off a rural roadway outside Oakdale, photographers Brent and Dawn Davis set out to capture the Aurora Borealis, more commonly referred to as the Northern Lights, during the Class 5 Solar Storm in the early morning hours Saturday. Using a timed exposure, the camera sensor can pick up much more than the human eye can see and this image was taken with a very wide-angle lens. The solar flares are in the northern part of the sky near the northern end of the Milky Way and the sky to the north is showing up a brilliant pink-purple. Towards the southern core of the Milky Way the sky shows more blue where the Aurora was not present.
