An early Monday morning crash on March 29 outside Riverbank resulted in the death of a Ceres man, who was ejected from his vehicle after it went off the roadway.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the driver crashed just after 2 a.m., going off Highway 108 between Mesa Drive and Adams Gravel Plant Road just east of Riverbank.

The man was identified by the Stanislaus County Coroner’s Office as 51-year-old James Hunter of Ceres. Authorities said Hunter was not wearing his seatbelt at the time of the crash. For an unknown reason, his eastbound 2006 Lexus sedan went off the road, then struck a metal dumpster and several trees. CHP officers said they were alerted to the crash via phone call and emergency personnel arrived on scene to find the Lexus south of the roadway. Hunter was located a short distance from the vehicle. He succumbed to his injuries at the scene.
