Chili Cook Off Coming To Oakdale In November
chili cook off

The Community United Methodist Church in Oakdale is planning one of the “Hottest” events in town – their inaugural Chili Cook Off. Whether you want to cook and compete or just come to eat, everyone is bound to have a lot of fun.

Chili cooks from all over the area are invited to cook their best chili. Bring it hot, bring it mild, with or without beans. This will be a no-holds barred cook off to find the best chili for 2022 in Oakdale in two categories: individual/non-business and business/restaurant to showcase their best chili. Prizes will be awarded in the individual/non business category and an overall “People’s Choice Award.” Entry fee is $25 and deadline to enter is Nov. 1.

The competition will have representatives from the fire department as judges along with Mayor Cher Bairos. First prize $300; Second prize $200; Third prize $100. There will be one “People’s Choice” Award.

If you’re not a cook but love to eat chili, you are invited to come and taste for yourself and bring the family to decide which chili is liked the best. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for children under 12 with three and under admitted free. Along with chili, other dinner items including salad, cornbread, dessert, and a drink will be served.

Tickets will be available in advance as well as at the door. Each attendee will have an opportunity to vote for the “People’s Choice” Award.

The event is happening at the Oakdale Community United Methodist Church, at 1480 Poplar Ave., right off Oak Street, on Saturday, Nov. 5 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. A new band will be debuting with live music that night. Also featured will be an art show by Carol Earle’s students.

Community United Methodist Church is focused on bringing events and ministry to the Oakdale community, including addiction ministry, grief support, “Hand in Hand”, neighborhood gardens, etc.

This event is registered with ICS Chili Inc for national chili competitions. (https://chilicookoff.com).
