Dia de Los Muertos, translating into Day of the Dead, is scheduled to be observed on Saturday, Nov. 1 in Riverbank this year. It is a holiday traditionally celebrated on Nov. 1 and 2, though other days, such as Oct. 31 or Nov. 6, may be included depending on the locality.

The multi-day holiday involves family and friends gathering to pay respects and remember friends and family members who have died.

These celebrations can take a humorous tone, as celebrants remember amusing events and anecdotes about the departed.

Organizers say it’ll be a night of remembrance, culture and community.

The celebration comes with all the traditions, including altars, a catrin/catrina contest, food, entertainment, and a lot of memories being shared about loved ones.

The evening will run from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Plaza del Rio in downtown Riverbank.

There is no cost to attend; all are welcome to the event.
