Morning Market Slated
A new Oakdale Morning Market will launch its first season, opening on North Third Avenue in Oakdale on Saturday, May 6. The weekly event is a project of the non-profit foundation Love Oakdale and will be hosted each Saturday from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. through Saturday, Sept. 30, 2023. Each week will include a few food truck vendors, as well as a number of vendors offering everything from produce, meat, eggs, bread and a variety of other food as well as fun items to give the market diversity.
Tea And Trumpets
A festive tea party that is a fundraiser for music education and programs for local school students in the Escalon area, Tea and Trumpets, is scheduled for Saturday, May 6 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.; hosted at Lorina’s Edible Garden, 17397 Enterprise Road, Escalon. There will be a Best Hat contest, raffle drawings, live music and a wide array of teas and finger foods, both savory and sweet. Ticket cost is $25 per person and the tickets are available through Eventbrite or by contacting Sonya Huff at 209-484-4465 or Debbie Murken at 209-402-0505. The event is sponsored by the Escalon Chamber of Commerce.
Market Place On Poplar
Once again, the invitation goes out to bargain hunters around the region to eat, shop or sell your wares at Market Place on Poplar, set this month for May 6. On the first Saturday of each month, Community United Methodist Church at 1480 Poplar in Oakdale, hosts this event from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. The Market Place offers an opportunity to shop for unique finds or meet up and order from Chef Lee’s popular lunch menu. Eat in, or take away. Interested vendors can contact craftfairinfo@yahoo.com for more information on reserving a $20 booth space. Upcoming dates through the end of 2023 are scheduled for June 3, July 1, Aug. 5, Sept. 2, Oct. 7, Nov. 4 and Dec. 2.
Quilters Guild Events
Members of the Oakdale Quilters Guild will have a boutique at the Burchell Hill yard sales in Oakdale on Saturday, May 6. The sales from boutiques help them continue their philanthropic efforts in the community and education for members of the guild. Members will be set up at North Maag Avenue and Esther Way in Oakdale on May 6 with quilts, fabric bundles and other gifts for sale just in time to shop for Mother’s Day. The May meeting will be on Thursday, May 11 at 6:30 p.m. at the new location of Community United Methodist Church, 1480 Poplar St.
The May class will be a workshop with a sewing challenge. Golden Agers Dance
Check out the Golden Agers dance group at the Riverbank Community Center on Wednesdays, 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., with dancing, socializing, live music and fun for all. All adults 55-plus are welcome. Just drop in to check it out or become a member. Fees are $5 for members and $6 for non-members. Membership is $15. The Community Center is at 3600 Santa Fe St., Riverbank.
Sunday Accordion Gathering
The Good Time Accordion Club members meet on a regular basis, the first Sunday of the month at 2:30 p.m., hosted at the Escalon United Methodist Church, 2000 Jackson Ave., Escalon. Admission is $5; there are free refreshments provided. The club presents musicians of all levels and many musical styles. Anyone can bring an accordion and play or just come to enjoy listening to the musical performances. The upcoming 2023 gatherings are scheduled for May 7, June 4, July 2, Aug. 6, Sept. 3, Oct. 1, Nov. 5 and Dec. 3.
TOPS Meeting
All interested are welcome to join TOPS (Taking Off Pounds Sensibly) a weight loss support group that meets in Oakdale every Monday morning from 8:30 a.m. to 10 a.m.; meeting at 7450 River Road, Suite 4, Oakdale. Widowed Persons Support
Oakdale Widowed Persons Group invites you to join them the first Saturday of each month for breakfast at 9 a.m. and on the third Tuesday of each month for lunch at 1 p.m.; call for locations.
