This past week in Washington, DC Rep. Josh Harder (CA-10) voted to pass the final version of the American Rescue Plan that was later signed by President Biden. The package includes a round of $1,400 direct stimulus checks, more than $190 million for Stanislaus County and its cities, and more than $180 million for San Joaquin County and its cities. The package’s child tax credit is expected to lift 40 percent of the nation’s kids out of poverty, including tens of thousands in the Central Valley. California, as a whole, is set to receive approximately $15 billion in K-12 funding as well, millions of which will go to schools in Central Valley. This funding will have an immediate impact in reopening schools as quickly and safely as possible.

“My job is to deliver for Central Valley families and that’s exactly what we’ve done today. This package gets money in bank accounts, vaccines in arms, kids safely in schools, and businesses back to work,” said Congressman Harder. “With direct stimulus checks, child tax credits, turbocharged vaccine production and distribution, important new investments in our counties and cities, and new funds to open our schools safely, this bill is the investment our community deserves.”

A breakdown of the new funds heading directly to counties and cities in the Central Valley is approximate but shows $107,000,000 for Stanislaus County and $148,000,000 for San Joaquin County. Local cities impacted will include Riverbank, with an estimated $4,600,000 in relief; Oakdale, $4,400,000; and Escalon, $1,400,000.
