Tuesday, March 8 is the date for a special municipal election in Riverbank to choose one out of four contenders for a vacant Riverbank City Council seat.

Polls will be open from 7 a.m. until 8 p.m. at three locations: Christ the King Episcopal Church at 6443 Estelle, Riverbank Community Center at 3600 Santa Fe and Crossroads Elementary School at 5800 Saxon Way.

The candidates, John Mitchell, Allison Nobert, Jeanine Tucker and Juan Verduzco, are seeking the seat left vacant by Danny Fielder when he resigned last June. Whoever receives the most votes will join Mayor Virginia Madueno, Vice Mayor Richard O'Brien and councilmembers Dotty Nygard and Jesse James White on a council that has lacked all five members for an extended period.

The City of Riverbank currently has 8,975 registered voters, of which 4,282 are permanent vote by mail voters, according to the Stanislaus County Registrar of Voters Office, which will conduct the election.

Results of the first ballots counted will be posted starting at approximately 8:15 p.m. on Tuesday, March 8 at the Elections Office and on its website www.stanvote.com. Continuous updates will be released throughout the evening and posted on the county site until the election night count is completed.

Candidates have taken part in a forum and also were available at the recent State of the City address given by the mayor, able to meet informally with residents at that time.
