Deputies Bust An Illegal Marijuana Grow And More

Riverbank Police Services continue patrolling the streets of Riverbank and responds to calls for service. This past week they dealt with public intoxication, a vehicle pursuit, and large illegal indoor marijuana grow along with several other calls. 

During the morning on Sunday, July 18, deputies were dispatched to a suspicious person sitting in a vehicle near Glow Road and Sulky Court. When deputies arrived the vehicle was empty, however they located Angel Manzo, 46, nearby. Manzo showed objective signs of alcohol intoxication and was unable to care for himself. Manzo was arrested for public intoxication.

Around noon on Sunday, deputies responded to the report of an adult female making suicidal threats. The female was determined to be a danger to herself and transported for services.

During the evening on Saturday, July 17, deputies responded to a disturbance in the 2700 block of River Cove Drive, where one person tried to strike another with a weapon. The investigation is ongoing and has been turned over to detectives.

Deputies were dispatched to a suspicious person reportedly selling drugs at the Shell Station on Atchison Street during the early morning hours on Friday, July 16. Deputies located Chance Americao Rodriguez, 19, who appeared to be intoxicated. Rodriguez admitted to being under the influence of Xanax and he was found to be in possession of a Xanax bar. Rodriguez was arrested for the illegal drug charges.

On Friday evening, deputies attempted to stop a vehicle near Patterson Road and Howard Avenue for vehicle code violations. The driver failed to stop for deputies and a short pursuit was initiated. The vehicle fled at speeds over 80 mph south on Howard and drove through numerous stop signs. Due to the unsafe speeds and dangerous driving, the pursuit was canceled. A short time later, deputies found the vehicle had collided with a fence on Morrill Road and the driver fled on foot leaving the vehicle behind. The driver was not located, the investigation is ongoing.

During the morning of Thursday, July 15, detectives and the CRD served a search warrant in the 6000 block of Rebecca Lane. They located a large sophisticated illegal indoor marijuana grow. Over 700 marijuana plants were located in addition to a large amount of methamphetamine, several pounds of processed marijuana, and numerous illegal fireworks.

On Thursday evening, deputies observed Eliseo Zarate, 51, standing near his vehicle at Terminal Avenue and California Street. Deputies had prior knowledge that Zarate had a warrant for his arrest. After they stopped and detained Zarate, they located methamphetamine and a loaded handgun in his possession. Zarate was arrested and booked for the warrant and new charges.

Deputies assisted with the bicycle rodeo at the community center this past Wednesday, July 14, to provide a safe and controlled place for kids to practice their skills, learn about bicycle safety, get their bicycles registered, and receive free bicycle helmets.

Near midnight on Wednesday, deputies responded to the report of a male passed out in his vehicle within the Target parking lot. They located Thomas Lawler, 35 and determined he was driving under the influence of drugs. Lawler was arrested for DUI.
