The following is a listing of some of the local calls for service involving the Modesto Fire Department, which staffs Stations 27, 28, 29 and 30 in Oakdale, Knights Ferry and Valley Home; and the Stanislaus Consolidated Fire Department, covering the Riverbank area.
Calls were logged during the time period of Tuesday, May 3 through Monday, May 9. Days not listed had no reports of significant incidents in this area.
MONDAY, MAY 9
HazMat team members met at Station 4 and conducted monthly shift training. Training included securing leaks in a 1-ton chlorine cylinder and the propane flaring kit.
Engine 27 attended the groundbreaking ceremony for the Third Avenue Improvement/Rehabilitation project in the City of Oakdale.
SUNDAY, MAY 8
Crews conducted training at a split-level home in Oakdale.
FRIDAY, MAY 6
10:30 a.m. – Crews from Station 28 and Station 29 conducted boat training on the Stanislaus River. While conducting boat training, crews witnessed a kayaker lose control and was ejected from their kayak along Russian Rapids. Crews immediately responded and rescued the individual who was unharmed.
WEDNESDAY, MAY 4
Crews attended quarterly EMS training at Station 22.
Training for probationary firefighters was conducted by various companies.
MST Fire Academy conducted River and Flood Rescue Training in Knights Ferry.
Station 7 provided FMA training for Engine 3, Engine 5, Engine 26, Truck 5 and Battalion Chief 5.
Engine 27 and Truck 5 conducted company level training.
TUESDAY, MAY 3
Crews rotated through Station 22 for quarterly EMS training.
The joint fire academy trained on vehicle extrication techniques.
10:59 a.m. – Brush 24, Engine 22, Grass/Water Tender 27, Grass 21 and Battalion Chief 5 responded to a reported vegetation fire in the 21000 block of Lake Road with CAL FIRE TCU. Crews arrived to find approximately two acres of grass contained by the landowner. Companies remained on scene with CAL FIRE completing overhaul.
