A late night arrest in connection with an armed robbery resulted in Francisco Pineda, 38, being taken into custody by Riverbank Police Services deputies.

He was arrested on suspicion of armed robbery and other charges on Tuesday, Sept. 8. Authorities initially responded to a report of a person being accosted while riding a bicycle.

After an investigation, deputies determined Pineda had pulled out a large silver handgun, pointed it at the victim and demanded the victim either hand over his money or the bike he was riding. The victim dropped the bike, ran and called 911. Deputies located the suspect across the street from where the incident occurred, near a market on Patterson Road, and took him into custody.

The victim’s bike was recovered by the deputies as well as a loaded .44 caliber Ruger handgun with an 18-inch barrel. Pineda was arrested and booked for armed robbery and carrying a loaded weapon in a public place. The Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Department ‘Who’s In Custody’ report indicated Pineda is due for a court appearance on Wednesday, Sept. 16 and was being held on $50,000 bail.
