A two alarm fire in Riverbank ultimately ended with an arrest, the suspect in the case due to face further court action.

The fire occurred at a residence on Castlepark Drive on Wednesday, Dec. 4. There were six engines and 18 firefighting personnel on the scene. There were no injuries from the fire and there was an estimated $125,000 in property damage.

When the fire crews arrived there were flames coming from the garage and the front door, authorities said. The occupant of the residence, identified as Nick Jenkins, 35, made it out of the house and was standing in front when the fire crews pulled up on scene.

Firefighters attempted to do their job but Jenkins kept physically interfering, said fire officials and due to the interference caused by Jenkins, the Riverbank Police Services were requested to the scene. Officers arrived and contacted Jenkins.

In an attempt to detain Jenkins, he got physical with the deputies and caused minor injuries to one of the officers.

Jenkins was subsequently arrested and booked at Stanislaus County Jail. Initial charges against him included arson, resisting arrest, and assault on a peace officer.

He is still in custody and bail has been set at $10,000.

Jenkins is due to appear in court on Thursday, Dec. 12 to face the charge of resisting arrest. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

Meanwhile, police report that a robbery occurred during the afternoon on Monday, Dec. 2 at the Riverbank Hotel on Third Street in Riverbank. The victim was a hotel resident who was cornered in a hotel room by three male adults that were armed with a handgun. The victim was threatened by the three suspects, who demanded the keys to his vehicle. The suspects took the victim’s vehicle and left the area.

The three suspects were identified as James Amador, 38; Myron Kilgore, 34; and Ronald McCurdy, 24; with authorities reporting that all three live in Riverbank. The suspects were taken into custody and booked on suspicion of robbery, conspiracy to commit robbery and committing a felony while out on bail.

According to Detective Josh Sandoval, on the evening of Monday, Dec. 2 a shooting also took place at the Riverbank Hotel. The victim was at the hotel when he was confronted by the shooter and a white female adult. The confrontation between the parties led to an argument, Sandoval said. The victim was then shot in the parking lot of the hotel. The victim sustained a gunshot wound to the face and was hospitalized. The shooting suspect fled the scene and has not been apprehended.

Sandoval also stated that through the investigation of the shooting a suspect was identified as George Arturo Saldivar, described as an Hispanic male, 37 years old, five-feet, eight-inches tall, 225 pounds, black hair, brown eyes, bald head, and clean shaven.

On Thursday, Dec. 5 a warrant was issued for his arrest for suspicion of attempted homicide. The female that was with Saldivar during the shooting has been identified as Leah Cadiz.

Cadiz is a person of interest in the case and is currently wanted for questioning. She is described as a white female, 37 years old, five-feet, seven-inches tall, 175 pounds, with shoulder length red hair, and green eyes.

Saldivar and Cadiz have been seen in the Riverbank area and have ties to the Riverbank and Modesto areas.
