A homeowner arrived home in the 6000 block of Falcon Ridge, on Friday, Aug. 1 at approximately 8 p.m. and found things out of place, the victim of an apparent burglary. Authorities were contacted and Stanislaus County sheriff’s deputies Hatfield and Victorino responded to the suspicious circumstances.

The resident entered the home briefly but quickly retreated back out and called 911 due to a strange bike in the backyard. Deputies secured the house and then immediately began checking the neighborhood. They located an adult male in the area with three backpacks. The male was identified as Ernesto Zermeno, 28, from Modesto.

A probation search was conducted and Zermeno was found to be in possession of stolen property from the residence on Falcon Ridge, including the homeowner’s prescription pills and other items. Zermeno was arrested and booked at the Stanislaus County Jail for burglary, possession of a switchblade knife, and violating probation.

He was scheduled to have a court hearing on Tuesday, Aug. 5 after The News went to press.

“It's a good reminder to the public to err on the side of caution and call 911 when they make observations that cause suspicion,” stated Police Chief Erin Kiely.
