Deputies Host Academy, Handle Variety Of Calls

Riverbank Police Services is holding its Junior Police Academy all week. The participants are learning about crime scene investigation and the different tools officers use to investigate crime. They will also see each of the specialty team units and learn more about their unique skillset and equipment.

Deputies also reported on a number of cases they handled during the past week.

On the afternoon of Sunday, June 13, deputies observed a 29-year-old man riding his bike near Jackson and Turpin. Deputies had prior knowledge that the subject had a warrant for his arrest; he was stopped and booked into the jail for the warrant.

Just after midnight on June 13, deputies received a call of male who appeared intoxicated walking into traffic near Patterson and Oakdale roads. The 25-year-old man was arrested for public intoxication.

On Saturday, June 12 at approximately 3 a.m., deputies were dispatched to a burglary alarm at the Crossroads Elementary School. Upon arrival, deputies located several teenagers who were drinking on school grounds. Several fled in different directions. Deputies gave chase and caught up with several. There were no signs of a burglary. School administrators did not want prosecution and the juveniles were released to their parents.

Shortly before 10:30 p.m. on Friday, June 11, deputies were dispatched to a family fight. Upon arrival, they contacted a woman who was extremely intoxicated. They spoke with her boyfriend who advised the woman had assaulted him using her fist and then a cane. The woman was arrested for domestic battery; she was extremely uncooperative and had to be placed in a restraint device and was then transported to the county jail.

In the early evening hours Friday, deputies were dispatched to a vehicle accident at the intersection of Patterson Road and Railroad Avenue. Deputies cleared the roadway and facilitated a name exchange.

On the evening of Thursday, June 10, deputies received a report of a male armed with a handgun in the 6500 block of Second Street. While deputies were responding, the same reporting party stated there was also a knife and a pipe involved. When deputies arrived on scene, they contacted the female reporting party who was determined to be extremely intoxicated. The scene itself was chaotic with many of the residents out and somehow involved in this incident. After an extensive investigation with many of the neighbors in the area, deputies were unable to determine if in fact a gun or pipe were ever used. The reporting party was taken back to her residence by her parents where she was advised to sleep off her intoxication.

Deputies were dispatched to the front of Petco in the late afternoon on Thursday, June 10 for a report of a subject slumped over his steering wheel. When they arrived on scene they found a man sleeping. Upon further investigation, the subject was found to have several warrants for his arrest and was also found to be in possession of a stun gun. He was arrested and transported to the county jail without incident.

In the early evening of Tuesday, June 8 deputies observed a male subject standing on the corner of First and Atchison streets who appeared to be intoxicated or under the influence of an unknown substance. Deputies contacted the man, who was deemed to be unable to care for himself. He was detained and later found to be in possession of drug paraphernalia. He was transported to county jail without incident.
