Last week, Riverbank Parks and Recreation Department Director Michael Patton took some time to begin gathering information about the desires of those using Jacob Myers Park as to future developments.
Patton set up a station in the Burney Pavilion in the park, off Santa Fe, with some light refreshments, but most importantly, a questionnaire he was having park users fill out. The goal was to discover what features available now they use and enjoy the most, and some they might wish to have added in the future.
He also had a large photo of an arial view of the park from a satellite for a different perspective, a bird’s eye view of how the park is laid out. Also on hand was a supply of pens and Post-it Notes so people there could make a note of what they wanted to add, then paste it onto the aerial photo in the place they thought it might work best.
Earlier in the afternoon, Patton hosted Carlos Flores, from the National Parks Service and Bruce Edwards, President of the Friends of Jacob Myers Park, providing a tour of the park and showing Flores its features while outlining potential expansion projects there.
The Parks Service is working to help the city update its Master Plan of the park to consider potential expansion.
For those who would like to provide some input to the Parks Department survey, they can do so online, in the Parks and Recreation Department of the city’s website, www.riverbank.org.
