Riverbank schools, including Riverbank High, Cardozo Middle, Mesa Verde and California Avenue elementary schools are due to reopen for the 2012-13 school year on Wednesday, Aug.8.

"We're excited to be reopening," said Riverbank High principal Christine Facella. "We have two new offerings in the science department, AP Chemistry and Ag Chemistry. We're opening with the same staff, which makes for consistency in instruction and among the people working with us."

That is with the exception of agriculture teacher Travis Cardoso who resigned during the summer vacation so Facella will be looking to hire another ag teacher.

"But student enrollment," she added, "will be close to the same as last year."

Commenting on the results of the latest state tests that were received over the summer, Facella said "all the students who took the language test passed it, which is very good."

Students are expected to visit the school between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. this Friday, Aug. 3, to pick up their class schedules and make other arrangements such as lockers.

The Riverbank Unified School District will hold a staff kick-off in the morning of Monday, Aug. 6 when board members and all teachers will assemble in the school's Fauria Gym before dispersing to prepare for Wednesday's opening day.
