Modesto gas prices have fallen 7.1 cents per gallon in the past week, averaging $3.76/gallon on June 17, according to GasBuddy’s daily survey of 201 stations. Gas prices in Modesto are 17.8 cents per gallon lower than a month ago, yet stand 24.5 cents per gallon higher than a year ago.

The national average price of gasoline has fallen 6.2 cents per gallon in the last week, averaging $2.67/gallon. The national average is down 19.3 cents per gallon from a month ago, yet stands 22.2 cents per gallon lower than a year ago.

“For the sixth straight week, gasoline prices have declined nationally, a feat not often seen heading into the prime of summer driving season. It was a perfect week with every state seeing average gas prices decline as stations continued to pass along the lower replacement cost as oil prices remain under considerable selling pressure,” said Patrick DeHaan, head of petroleum analysis for GasBuddy. “For some states like California, Illinois and Ohio, the party may partially end in just two weeks as those states prepare to raise gasoline taxes a noticeable amount, sending their gas prices higher just in time for July 4.”

According to GasBuddy price reports, the cheapest station in Modesto is priced at $3.45/gallon while the most expensive is $4.29, a difference of 84.0 cents per gallon. The lowest price in the state on June 17 was $2.79 while the highest was $5.89, a difference of $3.10/gallon. The cheapest price in the entire country as of June 17 stood at $1.92/gallon while the most expensive was $5.89, a difference of $3.97/gallon.

Neighboring areas and their current gas prices include: Stockton - $3.69 per gallon, down 8.5 cents from last week’s $3.77; Oakland - $3.86, down 5.6 cents from $3.92; and San Jose - $3.83, down 5.8 cents from $3.89/gallon.
